What is Big Write?
It is a philosophy about writing which was originally devised by Ros Wilson. (A former teacher and Ofsted Inspector).
We have taken it and adapted it to suit our school and our children.
It is based on the premise that to write well children need to feel confident and motivated.. |

Foundation Stage
 In Foundation Stage we are preparing even the youngest children for The Big Write later in their school career. We hold a daily ''Powwow' under titles such as ''Make believe Monday' & ''Fish for a Wish Friday'. During these short sessions we encourage children to speak in full sentences and use adventurous vocabulary.
 To help with this we not only model sentences but we have a weekly WOW word that we introduce and try to use as often as possible, some recent examples include 'scrumptious' and 'divine'!Knowing that if we want a school of great writers we first need a school of great talkers we encourage all children to participate and hope that parents will too. It has been so successful with the children that these daily Powwows are now happening right up to Year 6! |
