Nov 11: Around the world in 80 dishes
As a part of our topic 'Around the world in 80 dishes' children in year 2 spent Wednesday afternoon making fresh pasta - 'the Italian way' - (hopefully!). Usual tables in the classroom were cleaned with anti-bacterial spray and all hands were washed. From this point it was 'hands-on'. Flour was weighed and tipped onto the tables - a well was made in the flour to hold freshly cracked eggs. The eggs over-ran the walls of flour - to the excited glee of the children! Finally eggs were contained and slowly mixed with the flour and olive oil. As the children worked the mixture they observed (science - changing materials) the powdery flour mix with the viscous liquid of the eggs and gradually form a dough.
The children will now have an opportunity to review the activities through the photographs taken at the time. Eventually they will decide which pictures will be useful to write instructions for someone else to follow.
Quote of the afternoon "This pasta's delicious! It's even better than my dad's!" (No - I won't confess who said that so that we don't upset Dad!) Thanks very much to Miss Alcock in year 1 and to Mrs Hageman for lending us their pasta making machines - they're experts as year 1 children have found out recently! Thanks also to Tom's mum for all her hard work.
Nov 11: Class Assembly
Children in year 2 spoke out really clearly (and bravely!) at their recent class assembly to the whole school and visiting adults.
If anyone missed it here are the pictures that we showed so you can ask your children to run through, either just their section, or the whole event.
It will give you a flavour of all of the different activities that your children have been involved in. PowerPoint Version (4MB) or PDF (3MB)
Oct 11: Many thanks to all of the parents/carers who took up the request to help with our 'educational games' start the day on Friday.
On this occasion everyone played word games - either 'pass the bomb' or 'scrabble' but we have lots of other games that we will use in the future. Please tell Ms Rivers or Mrs Hunt if you are able to join in - even if it's only 1 Friday - as this will influence how many games - and which games we can put out. Click here to view a few photos
