Guy Fawkes, Diwali and Remembrance
This week was very busy with plenty of learning opportunities relating to events in our calendar.
We started the week talking about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate The Gunpowder Plot. Children enjoyed making firework pictures outside with chalks and attempting to write words. Inside they used paint and crayons to do pictures too.
Midweek we learnt about Diwali. We watched a puppet version of the story on the whiteboard and enjoyed recreating that later. We watched a video about how Hindu children in UK celebrate and looked at diva lamps. Some children made their own during Independent Learning time.

As the week drew to a close we touched on Remembrance Sunday and the centenary of the end of the war. A difficult subject for young children so we touched on how long ago it was and about how people gave their lives for a peaceful future for us as well as the reasons for wearing a poppy.
Children drew poppies and on Friday they made them using biscuits, red icing and a chocolate button!
